In a heartening turn of events at PetSmart, an observant employee noticed movement within an abandoned shopping cart. Drawing nearer, she discovered a shy dog peering out, silently pleading for help.
Swift and concerned, the employee sprang into action, potentially rescuing the young pup from peril.
Chrissy Elder, founder of Forgotten, Now Family Rescue, recounted, “[The dog] was featured on a Facebook group by a PetSmart employee seeking advice.” Monroe, as Elder later named her, remained in the cart, unnoticed for nearly half an hour, urgently requiring immediate attention.
Responding promptly, Elder and her team stepped up, determined to provide Monroe with the urgent care she desperately needed.
“I assured them our rescue would intervene,” Elder recalled. “I met the employee at an emergency vet clinic to take custody and provide care.”
Enduring multiple intricate surgeries, the 3-year-old pit bull mix underwent treatment for several injuries. Monroe’s survival was greatly owed to the employee’s timely intervention. Remarkably, after the ordeal, the resilient dog’s condition significantly improved.
“She’s not anticipated to require further treatment,” Elder affirmed. “[She] is poised to lead a typical, healthy life.”
Monroe currently resides in a foster home, awaiting her forever family. Despite enduring hardship, she exudes affection and gratitude, winning hearts effortlessly.

“Monroe is incredibly sweet,” Elder remarked. “She readily connects with everyone she meets. It’s astounding considering how everyone let her down.”
Now fully healed and thriving, Monroe faces the future with resilience and optimism, prepared for the next chapter in her life.
