An alarming call to the Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) unfolded a disheartening situation. A concerned citizen witnessed an unthinkable act—a woman callously abandoning a dog in a dumpster, sealing its fate without a second thought.
The abandonment, a stark display of cruelty, left the innocent dog alone in the cold confines of the dumpster. However, thanks to the swift action of the Good Samaritan who reported the incident, SRSL’s rescue team rushed to the scene, prepared to intervene.
Upon lifting the dumpster’s lid, they were met with a sight that tugged at their hearts—a gentle face, full of innocence, stared back at them.
“[S]he’s perfect in every way,” SRSL expressed on Facebook. “She is not trash.”
The pit bull, cramped within the dumpster’s confines, was visibly relieved at the sight of the rescue team. Though physically unharmed, the suffocating heat inside the dumpster posed a severe threat.
Their rescue efforts were swift as Donna Lochmann, SRSL’s chief life saving officer, carefully retrieved the pup, later named Malea, from the dumpster’s grasp. Malea found solace in the warmth of Lochmann’s arms as they made their way to SRSL’s headquarters.
In a sudden turn of events, another distress call emerged—a duo of helpless puppies abandoned in a downtown parking lot needed urgent aid. The team, with Malea in tow, shifted gears promptly to assist the puppies named Hocus and Pocus.
Amidst challenges of shelter space, SRSL’s determination prevailed. While reaching their capacity, they ensured the trio found temporary refuge through fostering and a Rovernight program.
Malea, Hocus, and Pocus now find themselves in caring homes, yet their search for permanent families continues. SRSL remains optimistic, believing that their remarkable qualities will swiftly attract loving forever homes.
As SRSL advocates for their deserving futures, they affirm, “They will have a good life… They’re perfect!” This resilient trio, despite their heartbreaking beginnings, symbolizes the resilience and unwavering hope that prevail in the face of adversity.
